Diane Shaw is a designer-maker currently listed on the UK Crafts Council National
Register of Makers and in the Homes and Gardens Magazine Directory.
Working solely with silk, her craft incorporates designing, hand weaving,
embroidery, and sewing to create
one-off items her workshop in West
Sussex, England.
INTERIORS
Initially trained as a maker of silk lampshades at the excellent 'A Shade
Above' workshop in Brighton, Diane was inspired to'recycle' the silk remnants of this
trade to create one-off items using the shapes and colours of the
individual fabric pieces themselves as a design starting point.
Diane Shaw's bespoke 100% silk interior pieces are completely unique in that they
do not form part of a 'collection'; every item is
individually and elegantly fashioned by hand to the highest standard
of workmanship, using only the finest silk fabrics, silk threads and
trimmings.

Having a fascination for silk
fabric also inspired Diane to produce her own small pieces woven on a
small table loom, using both vintage and new silk yarn sourced from
around the world.
The main design emphasis is on clean
lines, and a neat, tailored feel that sculputures sumptuous silks into
folds, pleats and soft geometric shapes. Luxuriant dupions are
layered with cool, crisp silk linens; royal taffetas with organza, and
high-tech silk textiles from international design houses are
complimented by simple hand woven natural silks.
